We will be meeting next Monday 16th Jan – 3.15pm at DUKE’S Hotel on the seafront (as the Kingswood/Devoran is closed).
We are very pleased to have as our guest the planning consultant Peter Sandover who has advised other towns and communities in Devon on how to put together a town plan:

The meeting will also be attended by the SVA’s Planning Committee.
There is one item on the agenda – a Town Plan for Sidmouth.
Following Peter Sandover’s presentation on his work, the meeting will have to consider some of the following:
> the focus/’vision’ of the plan
> the format of any plan
> the procedures/steps to achieve it
> engagement with the authorities
> working with other community groups
To quote Cllr Mike Allen, the chair of the EDDC’s LDF Panel, to whom we (Chamber/Hospitality Assn/SVA/VGS) have expressed concerns:
I can see where the response is coming from and understand the worries
However I would urge you all to look at the future and provide us with a vision for how Sidmouth will develop economically in the next 15 years from an aspirational rather than trend view.
If you continue the current trend alone I would guess the same things will happen and in the current environment may lead to decline. So what do the Town Council, Chamber and Community groups want to do presuming protection of the AONB is a given, apart from some “tweaking”
It seems we are being invited to come up with an ‘overall plan’.
The next Futures Forum meeting following this will probably be on Mon 13th Feb, at which we will consider other items arising from the minutes of the 5th Dec meeting: I attach the minutes.
